SCARBOROUGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Those who craft quilts for Project Linus showed off their handiwork at the Cumberland County chapter's first ever quilt and blanket show Saturday.

Volunteers with Project Linus create quilts and blankets for children who are seriously ill or go through traumatic experiences.

The Cumberland County chapter reopened in late September and has handed out 821 blankets so far.

Saturday's event is to showcase some real pieces of art that will be going to children.

Sherisse Wormell from the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital says she sees the quilts and blankets soothe families all the time. She says some children come back to the hospital years later with the same quilt they got the first time. Kristin DiCara
